Summary
Instruct courses in Business and Agricultural Education. Overall departmental courses offered include: Intro to Agriculture, Agricultural Construction, Companion and Vet Sciences, Agricultural Mechanics, Horticulture, Marketing, Coop-Ed Careers, and Jr. High Exploratory. Teaching assignments will be determined based on qualifications and department needs. Work with our current AgEd instructor to organize and facilitate the FFA program. Effectively employ teaching practices and create a sense of community and respect. Work harmoniously with students, parents, colleagues, and administrative team to effectuate the district mission. Multiple grants support a variety of efforts, purchases, and student experiences on an annual basis.
Qualifications
- Professional Educator License with endorsement in Agriculture Education
- Appropriate State of Illinois certification for assignment
- Candidates without endorsement may be considered; assistance in obtaining a Career and Technical Education endorsement requires 2000 hours of experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge of content and teach approved curriculum.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how individuals grow, develop, and learn and provide learning opportunities that support the intellectual, social, and personal development of all students.
- Demonstrates an understanding of how students differ in their approaches to learning and create instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners.
- Demonstrates an understanding of instructional planning and is able to design instruction based upon knowledge of discipline, students, the community, and curriculum goals.
- Uses group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
- Uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students’ development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
- Uses effective written, verbal, nonverbal, and visual communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interactions in the classroom.
- Demonstrates an understanding of various formal and informal assessment strategies and uses them to support the continuous development of all students.
- Demonstrates the understanding of the role of community in education and develops and maintains collaborative relationships with colleagues, parents/guardians, and the community to support student’s learning and well-being.
- Is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates how choices and actions affect students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community, and actively seeks opportunities to grow professionally.
- Demonstrates an understanding of education as a profession, maintains standards of professional conduct, and provides leadership to improve students’ learning and well-being.
Professional Responsibilities

- Attend meetings, serve on committees, and perform such other duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or his/her designee in accordance with the labor agreement and the Board of Education.
- Remain available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, such as parent teacher conferences.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules.
- Have regular attendance and infrequent absences.
Physical Requirements
- Endurance within a classroom setting; teaching students while standing, sitting, or walking throughout the classroom, building or outside activities with the ability to maneuver in tight spaces between desks, etc.
- Working with the students in an instructional setting may entail kneeling or squatting, stooping, and bending from the waist on an occasional to frequent basis on a given day.
- Use of aids such as whiteboards, posters, bulletin boards, overhead projector, television, computer, and technological equipment.
- Retrieval, use, lifting and storage of teaching material, including books, equipment, assignments, etc.

- The classroom teacher’s schedule is subject to change with district demands in compliance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Evaluation
- Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of District policy on evaluation, the Performance Evaluation Reform Act of 2010 (PERA), Senate Bill 7, and Articles 24A and 34 of the Illinois School Code.
